Thu 17 Oct

Swift nip over during the day to discuss the dimensions of the downstairs cloakroom (or toilet, if you're allergic to euphemism) and then a trip back in the evening en famille.

The changes are obvious as soon as you open the door. What used to be a cupboard under the stairs is now almost entirely gone, in preparation for a nosepowdertorium. Note Nat in a hat behind where a wall was (she's standing in the door to the rear extension room, which will be the kitchen proper).

Up on the middle floor, the skeleton of the partition between the main lounge and master bedroom has gone up. Out of sight round the corner (and too dark for the phone camera to pick up anyway), there's also a new partition betwixt master bedroom and its ensuite. Cue curious measuring and scribbling on floors, figuring out the placements of furnishings...

Up another flight of stairs (avoiding the carpet gripper-rods, perfectly intact after decades of service) to Ella's room. A brief conversation about the possibility of removing a cupboard resulted in its immediate destruction - efficient if slightly worrying. Plans are afoot to use the space - which has a sloping floor because of the stair headroom below it - creatively: cue Liz and Ella faffing about folding bits of paper into a 3D model...

Looking from the former master bedroom (to be lodger's room) into Nat's room. This hole used to be a cupboard in the master, but we're switching it to Nat's room as a seat (above the currently-visible air vent) – and we're delighted to find room above it for a bookshelf. A nice nook for Nat.

Looking through the same gap from the other side (Nat's room). As ever, Ella needs a wee.

A more worrying gap has emerged in another of Nat's walls, looking through to the bathroom. Turns out this is for pipework, rather than so Nat can watch people ablute.
