Further in, event horizon! The English lads have finally finished cutting the lintel for the back-wall steel, which should arrive today, honest mate, definitely.
Yon hole from the outside. What with this and the garage wall gone, it's best described as parky - which isn't helping the plastered walls upstairs to dry; we may have to borrow/rent a dehumidifier.
But by noon, the steels still hadn't come – and with the structural boys understandably unwilling to knock down the former external wall without steel support, that means that ol' kitchen wall still stands...
But at least the wooden floors have arrived. Here's a growing pile where the kitchen will be:
Up on the top floor, Pawel's been busy carpenting Ella's bed, now replete with shelves. In case you're wondering, she'll get into it by scrambling up a stepped bookcase, which will descend from the right-hand side on this pic:
It being Wednesday, we both had the day off to get busy. Lizzie sprayed some air-vent covers - the white ones didn't really work, although Nat's lime green came up a treat - while I crawled around in the attic, damping down insulation (which we'll improve) and measuring for loft-boarding (for storage).
Also, a long conversation with Pawel about when we can get things done... it looks very unlikely tht all will be finished by Dec 10th (when we move in) but it's eminently doable to get the top two floors finished so we can live up there in comfort while they finish the kitchen and utility.
The eagle-eyed will note the calendar's extension onto the masking tape. Oh yes.
Just as it got interesting, we had to leave - kids, innit - but a text later said that the first steel was in, which is definitely progress. A second will be added - hopefully this evening, maybe tomorrow or Friday - which will be bolted into the middle of that first one and come back to the corner of the utility room; then the third will do the job of the former extension wall, holding up the side of the house...
Tomorrow, Surrey Windows return to add the (extension) kitchen window/door and the top-floor rear windows - after which Pawel's team can start on the top-floor bathroom. Pawel will fit the remaining windows - the two at the front of the ground floor, plus the middle-floor rear (master and ensuite) - on Monday. Then on Tuesday, the 3.5m (11.5-foot) bifolding doors are installed at the back - and at that point, the exterior is done and it's all interior finishing. Which is good, as a fortnight on Tuesday, we move in...
Brick, wood, steel: all have arrived. Go! Build a house!
